Mount Snow offers a
comprehensive Hiking Center, including self-guided tours and interpretive
nature hikes and a free
trail map.
Hikers at Mount Snow have
access to more than 20 miles of trails through the Green Mountain National
Forest on and around the mountain, with terrain for various abilities. Guided interpretive hikes explore the beauty
of trails located on the main mountain (reservations are required). All
self-guided hikes utilize the resort's expansive trail system on the Main and
Carinthia mountain faces. The Ridge Trail is a favorite among hikers for its
dynamic 2.5-mile trek that links the peaks of Mount Snow and Haystack. The Hiking Center, located at the Grand
Summit Resort Hotel provides trail maps, hiking boots, backpacks, water bottles
and all the gear needed for the ultimate hiking experience.

From West Dover go north on Rt.
100 to South Wardsboro and turn left on to the Stratton-Arlington Road and go
6.3 miles to Grout Pond Access Road (clearly marked). Drive 1.3 miles to the
pond. There are a series of easy hike loop trails, which
pass around Grout Pond and access the north end of Somerset Reservoir. 10 miles of trails for winter and summer
use. Easy hike, loop trails for 2 – 4
hours.
Also a full day hike on the
Long Trail, the trail runs north-south through Vermont. In this section of Vermont it is also the
Appalachian Trail. Follow directions to
Grout Pond except go past Grout Pond Access Road and travel .7 miles to trail
head. Park near the Deerfield River Bridge
which is well signed for these trails.
Hike north 3.3 miles to the top of Stratton. Climb the fire tower for a panoramic view of southern
Vermont. This hike is rated moderate to
difficult. 6.5 hours round trip
This planned trail is a
seven to ten foot wide recreational pathway through the towns of Dover and
Wilmington. The eleven-mile route will
eventually extend from Mount Snow to the village of Wilmington. The section from Mount Snow to the
Wilmington town line is currently usable by hikers, bikers, cross-country
skiers and snowshoers. Much of the
trail in Wilmington is usable by snowmobilers and hikers alike. Look for the Valley Trail signs where the
trail crosses the road just south of Mount Snow on The Handle Road.
Summers only. A wonderful short walk to Mt. Olga that ends
at a lookout tower. The elevation is
2415 feet. Go east on Rt. 9 from
Wilmington about 3 miles and there will be a large sign on the right. For information call 464-5460. Easy 1.7 miles to summit, 3 hours round
trip.
